UKALTA statement on the conflict in Ukraine

As a UK learned society, the Association for Language Testing and Assessment (UKALTA) supports the teaching, learning and assessment of languages to create opportunities for individuals’ personal development and to foster positive interaction between those from diverse linguistic and cultural communities. We are deeply shocked and distressed at the recent invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation, with its devastating impact on the Ukrainian people, their homeland and the wider region. Some of our members have close personal links with Ukraine and many of us have been collaborating in recent years with professional colleagues in Ukraine, Russia and other parts of Eastern Europe on language teacher education projects for the benefit of all. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with all who are affected by this conflict, and especially members of our sister organisation – the Ukrainian Association in Language Testing and Assessment (UALTA). We stand in solidarity with all who are striving for peace, justice and the common good at this time.
